The 22 High Leverage Practices (HLPs) outline the most crucial practices that every K-12 special education teacher should master. When implemented effectively, each of the HLPs has been shown to improve student outcomes—which is the reason we all chose this profession. In this keynote, Dr. Lesh will present themes from a recent CEC survey of special education professionals to create a picture of the state of our profession and will demonstrate how the HLPs can help teachers and administrators address some of the biggest challenges they face in the classroom. At a time when educators report feeling overwhelmed and underprepared, empowering them with strategies on how to effectively implement the HLPs in the classroom is critical to their success. By the end of this session, attendees will be equipped with not only a high-level understanding of the HLPs but more importantly with effective strategies and a multitude of resources to help them better implement the practices in their classroom tomorrow.
